After dealing with Don and Karen Stevensen at WoodStabilzer.com for a year and a half now I have to say they are great folks to work with. They operate out of B.C. and offer stabilized wood blocks and scales, maple, buckeye, amboyna, etc. and some naturals like cocobolo, camphor and ebony. Although it is time sensitive, this came in my email last night from Karen. It may be of interest to our members... Labour Day Special! FREE SHIPPING North America on $50.00 or more Until Sept. 7!! Go to our website www.woodstabilizer.com and order using the free shipping button. Dan
I have sent these guys about 3 emails in the last month regarding getting some wood done and never hear from them. I thought maybe they got burnt up in a forest fire or just weren't interested in stabilizing wood anymore. I like to keep the business in Canada but am waiting for the dollar to improve and then am sending it to Iowa if I don't hear from them soon.
Cal, I don't think they've done any stabilizing as a service since the current owners took over the business a year and a half ago. Maybe give Don a quick call (250) 696-3424. Dan
Well I have some new goodies from Woodstabilizer.com... And, I don't think this is unreasonable for $60 Canadian and free postage. A 1"x 2"x 5" block of stabilized Aboyna burl, two stabilized spalted maple scales at about 3/8" thick and one block of Mexican cocobolo (unstabilized). Have a great Labour Day weekend! Dan
I think that's a pretty good deal myself. I really like aboyna can't pronounce it but it sure makes a nice handle. I have to admit I'm curious about Rob's post
I guess I use the wrong deodorant I can't even get them to return my emails about getting some wood stabalized.
Yeah, they're not accepting customer wood for stabilizing anymore. The old owners used to but the new ones don't. Shame too, it was nice to have the option.
Guys, I think it's called amboyna. Either that or I've been pronouncing AND spelling it wrong all these years.... Jim T
I got my 80 pieces of wood back from them a couple of weeks ago and it looks great !!!!! Will try it on a new knife soon.
80 Pieces? Yeah, I'd answer an email on that for sure. Though that clearly reveals the problem to be your questionable choice of deodorant.
Well I can't spell or pronounce it properly. I was looking and their page is down, anybody have any dealings with them recently? I'm getting low in handle material and with the dollar so low buying from the US is not very appealing.
"AMBOYNA" My mistake on earlier post. Their site has been down for a week. It's not looking good for the supply of stabilized wood in Canada.
That's good news. I spoke with Karen in November last year and she said they were getting a bunch more wood done for late January. Looking forward to seeing it.
