Most of us can't throw away things like little blocks of stabilized wood. I just found a neat way to use them.

Very nice Brad. I too can't let go of little scraps of figured wood.

Same here. Lol. If it is too small for a knife it gets put aside for a pen. I only made 1 pen so far. Now I owe my son and daughter a mechanical pencil each. Lol . I wish I would have remembered to take a pic of the pen because it had an amazing piece of maple burl on it. I gave it to my cousin when I was in Toronto almost couple months ago.

Great idea and wicked cool pen. I have never owned a lathe though. The only thing (before now) i ever thought I'd like to turn is a burl bowl. I may have to start saving my change (once i get my new grinder bought that is, and my new bandsaw, oscillating spindle sander, portable mill, horizontal sander.... one day, maybe, i will get a lathe : )

Get a decent lathe, I tried a Canadian Tire special and turning rings was an adventure in frustration. You can also make an assortment of pendants with the scrap pieces of handle material and including a necklace and ring with a knife really softens the blow when a husband buys a knife.
Wife starts to growl, toss jewelry at here and all is good again.

Wouldn't you know it. I have the one wife who doesn't like jewellry much at all... nuts. Her hobbies are more expensive than mine so i have to watch myself I guess.

My daughter is like that, jewelry not much if any. Only one ring I can think of but she loves the couple knives I made her and they are displayed on her dresser
