    Hey guys!

I am almost ready to pop for a KMG and I was talking on the phone with one of the local shops trying to get quotes on motors and VFD's when a buddy of mine walked in and overheard the conversation. After I hung up he told me not to buy anything until he has a look through what he has kicking around his shop as his company builds pumps for oil and gas and he ends up with lots of motors from when companies are having pumps repaired and because of the huge costs of having them removed from tanks, shipped from the oil fields down to Calgary, repaired and shipped back up north and reinstalled, a lot of the time they just elect to have the motors replaced even though they may only be a few months old.

So short story, they keep the good motors... He was looking through his stuff today and he has a couple 1.5 hp and a couple 3 hp motors and says I can have whichever I want for free. He also might have a couple VFD's too and will try and find them for me! Nothing better than good and free!

Anyways, here are a couple pics of the tags on the motors and I was hoping the more knowledgeable fellows on here would be able to tell me which might be the better choice for a KMG chassis...

    Thoughts?

That's a beauty! Inverter (VFD) rated 3HP is all I could ask for!

What size is the shaft? Probably 7/8" at least.

Not sure Dan... I should ask that! If it is 7/8ths, can it be adapted to the 3/4 required for the KMG?

I have 2hp 220 volt single speed, not bad but for variable speed I would go with 3hp. More mass is better at low speeds

Talked to my buddy and he says it is a 1&1/8th inch shaft. He said it is super easy for him to fab a pressed fit coupler to whatever size is needed and that he does it all the time for industry. I am pretty stoked!

Bloody good deal man! Yes, I see the 182T NEMA frame has a 1.125" shaft. So you need a 3HP VFD and some 240 V in your shop.

What's the likelihood of him having a small 110v motor kicking around? :whistling

Oh don't kid yourself... I have him covered on a regular basis! Lol! Good for him I am his friend and sell custom wheels and tires for a living considering his is addiction to all things fast in the transportation world...

That said, it goes without saying I will be making something nice for him. Gotta look after your buddies!

That's a sweet deal Bob. A 3hp motor and VFD, you're gonna pay a nice chunk of your KMG with what you save on the motor.
