Was wondering what everyone uses for cutting steel. Also, was wondering how this poll thingy works. Dan
i bought a milwaukee deep cut potable band saw . and made a stand for it . works great .and takes up next to no room , and has variable speed .
i got the with the 11 amp motor . costed around $300 . there is a cheaper one with less amps . i can cut up to 5 " in length .so at times i will use my hand grinder then the band saw , but it cuts awesome .
I have and use a hack saw because I am too cheap to buy a band saw so far and I am not really a fan of angle grinders, for anything.
I always want a bandsaw when I start a new knife project. Then once all the hacksaw work is done, I decide I don't really need it.
I'd like a band saw to rip some steel. Cross cutting is only a bit of elbow grease with a hacksaw. I was wondering about buying a 6" x 36" chunk of stainless and figuring out how to make that into 1.5" strips. My arms got sore thinking about it!
I picked bought a metal cutting band saw several years ago. I got a cheapo one because that was all I could afford at the time. The band saw blade jumps off the wheels if I push the steel through too quickly, but it's still a lot faster than using a hacksaw. I'll eventually look at upgrading to a more heavy duty band saw. I have 4 angle grinders. 2 with 4 inch disk's and the other 2 are 5 1/2 inches. The guy from X-Men was to busy this week so I took my old Makita instead ;-)
I have a cheap metal cutting band saw have to go real slow blade jumps off if you go to quick but its a lot better than a hacksaw
I got a metal cutting bandsaw (horizontal/vertical) from Busy Bee for Christmas. Now to cut some steel.
I might be leaving the hack saw club. I just picked up a 2-speed Porter-Cable Portaband Model 725 for $150 on Kijiji. Near perfect condition in the case, with blades and owner's manual. Now to rig up a little table, switch and work lamp. I have a feeling this is going into the tool WIP department. Dan
I bought a grizzly portable bandsaw. Not the best but it works. Saves me from buying out all the cutoff wheels at Canadian Tire. : )
