Hello and welcome to Canadian Knifemaker.

These forums are about the art and craft of making knives. Whether you're an experienced maker, a hobbyist, or just someone interested in the craft, we invite you to join in the discussions.

Canadian Knifemaker was created as place to capture knowledge from those with experience and to pass it on to those who wish to learn. It's also a place where any maker at any level can share pictures of his or her work with others who understand the craft and appreciate the effort it takes. Most makers have few chances to receive constructive peer reviews of their work. Here you can post pictures of a completed knife or a work in progress and ask for help and opinions from other makers.

Join in the discussions. You'll find we're a friendly group.

    Hi ,
I live in Northern Ontario and I am a new kid on the block. I wouldn't consider myselft a knife maker but I have been assembling knives a making sheaths for a few years now. I am happy to join your family and I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge on knife making. I will post a few of my latest assemblies when I figure out how to do it. Merry xmas to all.

Welcome to CKM, Lonesome. Looking forward to seeing some of your work.

I think your experience assembling knives should help you quite a bit when you transition into making your own. You'll already have a good feel for the fit and finish.

Check out this post to see about posting pictures on the site.

They're a little tricky to see. You'll need to link directly to the image file rather than just a SkyDrive location for them to show up here.

Note: you can see the images if you right-click on the box and choose Open image in new tab (or window).

As for the knives themselves, they look really good. Knowing what material to choose for a knife is as much an art as the finish itself. Choose right and you can make a simple blade design really stand out. Choose wrong and it ends up in your "nice try" drawer.
