Hey Guys, so here is a update on the bowie project. So first off, it int going to be done this weekend :whistling
Today I got around to cutting out the blank for the blade, and making the hand guard. The ruff filling on the guard was filled out and now got some tweaking to do. I am thinking about doing the same file work on the spine of the blade. We will see how it goes tomorrow.
Sundays plan are engraving on the blade, and if I have time finishing the guard.
    Cheers

You're moving pretty good. If you keep going the way you are you will have a finished bowie in a few days.

If you want to go real old school you make the back of the guard slightly open knotch the tang and melt sulphur which you then pour into the space.

This technique was used for mounting threaded rod in concrete up until the 70's

Mind you nothing about this is healthy but it does work.

Looks good Peter! That's a mean looking knife. I think you should go with the filework on the spine, it would tie it all together and look awesome!

Hey Peter! There is a woman on one of my woodworking forums who is a serious engraver name Catherine Kennedy. Goes by the online handle of Cloudy. You should check out her stuff! I know she blogs some too. Just the kind of person to inspire you even more maybe!

Little update, so after planning to make a coffin style handle, I realised that the handle was a little short by about 1/2 inch, and dint feel right holding it...to much weight at the front. so decided to make a hidden tang version, where I would cap it off with another piece of copper.
for the handle I decided to go with zebra wood, liked the contrast with the copper.
So today when I was just about to shape the bolster my belt drive on my belt sander snapped:mad:, now I have to wait till tomorrow .
anyways here is where the bowie stands. still some shaping to do on the handle and the bolster and some buffing.
    cheers
