Here is stick #2 ! yes.....yes....I know its a knife making forum, and that's why next one I will be incorporating a utility knife to the stick.... so #2 decided to go with a Scottish theme , diamond cut handle and basket weave shaft. Painted and varnished. white oak stick ( home hardware shovel handle ) still have to complete the copper wrap end Hope you guys like it.
Wow man, that's really cool. And a shovel handle no less. Crazy. If you were to do this on a "real" stick, what kind would you use. Would it have to be dry etc.? That's awesome.
Thank you Todd, well from what I heard is that you can use pretty much any type of wood, depends really on what you prefer , the blank does have to be dried out before carving. because it will twist and crack in the drying process. so once this snow melts ill be going out hunting for blanks for next winter. Also want to get some nice pieces of drift wood from the lake shore think that would have a interesting feel and look.
That looks great Peter. I have a lot of willows on my property and it's great for walking sticks. Occasionally I find some diamond willow in the wet areas that's been attacked by fungus. I understand that this is uber-desirable for making walking sticks.
Hey Dan, Thank you... Diamond willow you say!? hmmmm well if you have some on hand I could relive you of them... Diamond willow is very popular for making wizard staff and wands...and for some reason these things, ( staff and wands) people go crazy over. huge market as I can see on the web. Actually just got a order today, someone wanting a wizard staff ….ask no questions ….told him sure thing! with in 30 mins he was at my door with a 3 inch blue crystal ball in hand. told me to use it for the top piece.... Any hoot, PM me if you got any laying around and we can arrange something. Cheers
