Hey all! After a ton of hemming and hawing and with a huge amount of encouragement and help from Mr. Paul Mason, I have officially started on my first ever tradtional slip joint... This is just the start and I imagine this will take me a while, but I figured I will start a thread and update my progress including successes and failures as I go. It is a single blade coke bottle style. I hope I can pull it off well!! Anyways, here are the roughed out liners, blade and backspring... It's a start!!
Looking good Bob, make sure you have some pain killers on stand by, you might need them in the coming weeks! Shout if you get stuck Paul
More progress today. Spent hours hand sanding the liners so they will look all nice and shiny inside where the blade sits once assembled. I had to make an entirely new backspring as I ground the first one ever so slightly too short to make good contact, and continued to refine the blade shape a bit more so it will fit in nicely when closed... Anyways, hope you all don't mind the thread spamming with every little bit done! Lol!
It's something i plan on doing one day so the fact you are documenting your steps doesnt bother me one bit
Had me a crazy last couple of weeks and have had zero shop time so obviously there has been no progress on my slippie, but this weekend I am bound and determined to get a bit more work done on it! On the plus side though, this cooler weather has brought my real world clients back in droves! I have been selling winter tires hand over fist!!
If you are ever interested I have a sheet of CPM S35VN coming in next week and after a couple ULU and other knives the offcuts might be a good size for small or medium folders. Will be going real cheap
