    Snailgixxer, I'm in Halifax, Nova Scotia. A bit far from Alberta.
    Dan, yes, it's masur birch. Also known as Karelian birch - preferred furniture wood for Russian tsar family... :)

    Roman , nice , do you do the scrim yourself ? I'm looking for someone local (Canada) to do a bit of scrim similar to yours on a couple pieces, but I'm no scrimmer.....

    Rob, yes, I did it myself and no, this is not scrimshaw. This is carving. Basic difference is that scrim is done with the needle and resulting image consists of "pixels", multiple dots. Carving is done with the knife and resulting pattern is made of continuous lines.

    Send me a PM with what you have in mind and will tell you if I can do it or not...
