OK so I have been busy as of late but I keep hearing about salt heat treatment. I can't find any information on it. Not always a search ninja.

So could someone please explain how to and what it is please, also the purpose of it.

    Thanks in advance
    Pb.

search melting temperature of salt, you do not want any moisture in the area.
then search "salt bath heat treating equipment" lots of reading.

a standard furnace is best overall and far safer.
Not the best for a hobbyist to get into unless you practice each and every safety measure.

Kevin Cashen has a good post on it on one of the other forums, its really not for the home shop unless you have one completely rigged for it.

@FORGE uses a salt pot. I find them a bit on the scary side, but when done right, the results are great.

I wouldn't want to have been that guy that discovered molten salt and water don't mix.
