    Hey All,

Just had my first fire in my forge :). Now I'm hunting for material to practice with. I think I scored good as a three rail line backs my property. I found a bunch of good spikes but was surprised to find Rail anchors.

I believe them to be high carbon steel. Each one is about 2lbs of material.

    I also need tongs :)

That's a lot of steel to push around without a press or power hammer. Are you planning to cut them into more manageable pieces?

Hi Mythtaken, I have a 6ton log splitter I plan to make a press out of. The challenge there will be the dies.

That's a bit of a catch-22. You need the press to make the dies for the press.

You can make them with a hammer and anvil, but I don't envy the job.
