Howdy folks After seeing your guy's work I feel the only thing we have in common is that we are Canadian Any way here is the latest in my Tribute to Finland phase. A little puuko style carving knife. The blade is convex and made from an older Nicholson file so I am guessing it makes it W-2. Going with a leather stacked handle, a 1970 nickle for the bolster, blood wood pommel, and 1960's dime for the peining cap. Blade blank shaped and normalized or partially annealed. Blade heat treated and tempered in roughed out leather and hardware. She is setting up with the epoxy now. Then on to the homestretch. thanks for looking. phil
Looking good so far man. I have a thing for leather handles. I have always liked them since my dad had a stacked leather hunter, and a stacked leather estwing hammer, but I had kind of forgot about them a bit. I credit Jules (metal99) with peaking my interest in them again with his last kith build.
Thanks guys. I am really diggin' the light feel in the hand, and the warmth of the leather. I am trying to find some bark for my next one. Epoxy has set up and I have applied first coat of cyanoacralate. When it's sanded down I'll postt some more pics. The leather has taken on a real rich tone. I like it.
Well pretty much done. It's not a laser guided fit and finish like I've seen around here, but she's a user Maybe a little polishing and honing, but this is pretty much it. Peace phil
I was debating grinding off the image, but figured it adds to the character. If you can get early enough coinage, it's pretty well solid nickel and silver. Check wiki for metalurgical composition throughout the years mintings.
Very nice!!! That looks really great and I think the blades worth more than 15 cents . Very unique and looks like a great user!!!
