I was in the store in West Edmonton on Saturday and spotted these: https://www.princessauto.com/en/searchresults?Ntt=corby rivets and https://www.princessauto.com/en/searchresults?Ntt=cutlers rivets Only brass Corbys and rivets from what I could see. But along with forges, anvils and G10, Princess is stepping up for knifemakers. Dan
Corby's are obviously threaded, but not sure how cutlers function - expanding rivet I suppose? Glad to see in any case
Yes, the cutler's rivets are the same type as used in many production kitchen knives. The barrel part is slightly undersized. She goes over the mandrel part and expands. These would be good for doing re-handles.
Has anyone bought a forge from Princess Auto? I tried to get the nephew to buy one but he is building his own.
They do sell forges. Here’s a link to their single burner forge: https://www.princessauto.com/en/the-apprentice-1-burner-forge/product/PA0008933640
I haven't used one of the Master forges. A fellow after my own heart. I know it's not the best way for everyone, but at $800 and $1300 for these forges one has to seriously consider making their own.
I got this one off eBay for a little less than what this one is now listed for about a year ago. (Think I paid about $350ish) Currently $381.52 with free shipping https://www.ebay.ca/itm/254878879504
Yeah, got my little Devil forge on ebay for 269$ including shipping. Arrived in exactly 13 days and works great!
One more for this thread. Now featuring micarta! Ta dah! https://www.princessauto.com/en/12-...-forging-handle-material/product/PA0008934218 Dan
Thanks for the Micarta link Dan. Funny where they stashed it in the Menu - not likely something I would have stumbled on Home >Metal Fabrication>Welding>Welding Tools and Supplies>Weld On Hinges and Tabs>12 x 5 x 1/4 in. Green Wood Grain Micarta Forging Handle Material
