Good day all! Driven from the original thread, http://www.canadianknifemaker.ca/index.php?threads/new-kith-build-for-2016.1746/ interest was expressed in running a Knife In The Hat this year. The guidelines are roughly this: Paring or Bird & Trout Knife 4" blade length maximum. Try to keep it under 8" long. (This isn't a Bowie KITH.) Stock removal, forged, with or without bolsters, full tang, stick tang or through tang: anything goes. Sheath or holder is optional. KITH ends June 17th, 2016. Each participant will receive a randomly drawn knife in exchange for a knife they enter. As a truly random drawing (from the hat so to speak) a non-participating, trustworthy, forum member acting as Facilitator will generate a swap list. As a participant, you will provide a name and mailing address to the Facilitator, before the deadline, in order to receive the knife being mailed to you. The name and address will not be published. The Facilitator will notify the participant of the name and address which to send their entry (knife). The Facilitator will not reveal in advance what knives are going to what participants. (Super fun this way) All knives must be packaged and shipped, postage paid by sender. Packaging of knives must in a safe way so as to not cause injury/harm to postal workers or recipient. All participants must submit at least 1 photo and dimensional specs of knife to the forum before closing, Friday June 17, 2016. Participants will receive recipient's name and address on or before Monday June 20, 2016. We hope to see knives made to the best of the participant's ability. As usual, critiques and reviews are appreciated. Please indicate in this thread that you are in. Admin has graciously created a topic for us to put our Work In Progress posts. If you wish to add some photos for your WIP, create a new thread within the 2016 KITH topic. Thank you and all the best! Dan
Guess I am drawing up a few templates tonight, was being lazy and searched for ideas. All templates out there seem to be DC knives (who ever that is ) and Jay Fisher.
I am using this DH55 pattern which has two shapes of two different sizes. Feel free to take if you like and tweak it. Change up the shape until it looks/feels right for you. That the artistic fun of it. ;-) Dan
I am in too! Might be a few weeks before I can tackle it but my mind is already turning over everything...
I just wanted to remind everyone that this KITH is not only for skilled makers. Be ye newb or be ye seasoned, any member can join in. It's really about doing the best you can and learning the craft. Best of luck! Dan
Rough grind is done and main bevels are roughed out. However I have to go overseas for a couple of weeks so its going to set me back. I should still be able to have it done in plenty of time though.
Seeing as i have missed all but the first, I will put in a tentative entry. I m fairly sure i can work with this, once i have finished up my orders. Given that a recent custom order seems to be falling through (havent been able to reach the guy for 3 months now), i should have time.
I'm in! It'll be my first knife that I do so I will try my hardest to get the quality up to some of the standards I've seen on here. I'll actually be doing two, one of which I will keep. Now to get my stuff. Should hopefully be here tomorrow.
With weather and other stuff going on looks like I am not going to make this one. Time just isn't being freindly to me.
Going to try and finish up the sheath for mine this weekend. Got distracted today playing with a Puma white hunter style knife in the yard.
