Total noob move - I made a mistake and worked the 's' pattern too far up the knife such that I'm a 1/4" past the edge of the bolster.

Now - should I swallow my pride and add this knife to my ever growing collection of oops knives or try to recover by continuing the pattern to fade out by the tip?

    Welcome all suggestions.

Photo or it didn’t happen lol!

Can you post a pic? We might be able to suggest something with a visual. Some of my file work passes the point you consider the ‘bolster’ area on some knives, as I continue the file work to cover off forward thumb positioning rather than do gymping.

Try to finish every knife as best you can. Even if it's only used in your shop to open cartons and as long as it's safe. I have my first and second abominations. Both are hideous, but they are useful for something. Even if that something is reminding me how far I have come in the craft. ;)

Ok Dan, then I'm two for two. One of these days I'll have a passable knife.

    Here you go Griff...

I think that looks ok. It's some added thumb grip. Finish it and show it to your friends. They will be blown away.

If you are like me, you are you own worst critic.

Yup, that looks totally fine. Leave it as is and call it thumb grip.

I don't think anybody would've even realized you didn't intend it if you hadn't said something. Dan's right, we are our own worst critic. And I'm surrounded by people who aren't afraid to be critical : )
