Just finished this one. O1 with nickel silver pins and scales of South African Blackwood. Then a sheath to match. Blade is about 4 1/2" and the handle about the same. Here's a few crappy camera phone pics. I really need to get good shots of these before they go, live and learn I guess. As always comments welcome.
Overall nice leather and knife work, one day I will figure out why I do a plain sheath and I hate it and others make it look so clean.
Thanks. I have only done a few leather sheaths, my last 3 orders have all asked for kydex. I like how this one turned out. I wanted it lighter than the handle so that the knife stood out more. Black stud to match the black edges. It's a bit of a pain hand stitching 6 layers of 8-9 oz leather, but I drill the holes on my drill press.
Nice one. I like the grind on that hunter. It gives it more character than a full flat would have. You did well on the sheath. I always prefer leather to Kydex.
Thanks Myth. The reason I chose to do a lower grind was to give me space to etch those initials in. I etched them in ferric with nail polish as a resist. They came out pretty clean for painting the outline with a brush.
You nailed it buddy. The stitching looks great. well spaced and straight. I always find it hard to get it nice and even.
Love that knife. That's sort of inline with some of my favorite styles. And I agree with Myth about leather over kydex too. I haven't made a sheath myself (i haven't made a knife i could actually harden yet) but I'm trying to decide between spending money on kydex supplies or leather for my first sheaths. You know, for when i start cranking out actual usable blades. Kydex has the appeal of looking very do-able for a beginner. But leather is so timeless. It just seems like a knife should be in a leather sheath.
Also, i really like the colour in the leather. I imagine it's dyed right? what colour is that? I dig it.
