    Howdy folks,
Happy to have found this site. I'm a hobbyist knife maker and woodworker. I enjoy repurposing carbon steel, and scrounging unique woods and bits for hardware and scales. I prefer local hardwoods over plastics and micartas. So many works of natural art to be had through the woods. I usually work with files as they are readily scrounged from flea markets and yard sales. I enjoy flyfishing, and fly tying, and hiking, canoeing, paddle making. But am not an expert in any of these just enjoy working with the tools I have. I recently finished my first leather stacked handle. I used a vintage Black Diamond Axe file for the stick tang. Salt water brine/dawn soap quench, and 1 hour 400 degree tempering. Seems to have worked pretty good. Thought you might like to see.

    peace

Thanks, I kinda got the stacked handle bug right now. Thinkin about a more traditional mora style puukho next. Bigger handle, maybe in some chunks of birds eye maple. :)

Very nice knife! What type of bone or antler is that?

I believe it is from a very large white tail rack. I found one at the flea market. Would have loved if buddy had the pair. It was really a monster rack. But it looked like a mature whitetail configuration. I am not sure of another deer species that produces such a large rack. at the base of the antler. I can barely get my grip around the main trunk. The one that is favored for the mountain man bowie knife. I'm sure it wasn't an elk though.

Hey I just recently joined this site to noreaster, Im also from PEI and have begun my knifemaking adventure. currently awaiting tools and steel, but I did manage to make one knife with files and sandpaper with a micarta handle, I do not know how to post the picture though? Are you on the western or eastern side of the island?

Cool, nice to know there are a couple of us on the island. I live in Marshfield about 15 minutes out side of Charlottetown on the way to Mount Stewart off St.Peter's highway. So to answer your question, more central than eastern.
