    Hi everyone,

I am from Whitby, On and I am really interested in getting into knife making. I currently have made a few small knives, and I have done custom scales for a few blade blanks.
My current tools limit my possibilities. I am using a 1x30 belt sander, angle grinder and a drill press. It all works but I hope to one day have a 2x72 belt grinder and a heat treat oven.
Speaking of heat treat if anyone has contacts for a service near me that would be much appreciated.

    Welcome to Canadian Knifemaker, Tim.

Don't let the lack of advanced tools hold you back. A belt grinder is nice, but a good set of files can do anything you need. It takes more time and effort, but you get a really good feel for the blade doing it by hand. Same with the heat treating. If you're working with carbon steel, all you need is a small forge (like the two-brick one or similar) and you've got a heat-treating setup.
