Hello there!! So very new to this hobby of knife making, So far I have just tipped my baby toe in.. I have gotten a few blanks and did up some handles and put together a couple of lockback folders.. I have a viable side hobby with hardwood cutting boards, butcher blocks and boards. and I was looking for something to complement the cutting boards.. Why not a cutting Utensils ! so I did some youtube reseaech , and alot of reading articles, some knife history, and listened to a library of podcasts. Knife history is far more interesting that i would have ever thought!! and am so glad that i decided to check this hobby out... and i still have never watched an episode of the tv knife making game show.. Dave. cheers and glad to be here..
Well THAT brings you up a notch, right there. Welcome to CKM, where real people make real knives in real time. This is a great resource for the new knife maker. We've got lots of experience in the ranks, and we've probably made every mistake you will with your first efforts, so we can help get past those. To be fair to Forged in Fire, it's a good show if you want to get excited about forging blades. It also provides some good insight into what can happen when your ambition over-rules your available time or talent.
Hi Dave, welcome to the forum! I'd say some hand crafted kitchen knives would be a perfect complement to your cutting boards and butcher blocks. Dan
Hi Dave. Welcome to the group!! Yeah, kitchen knives and cleavers make sense to me too. Cleavers are pretty cool to make.
