Hello, I'm a novice knife maker/ armorer currently living in Kenora Ontario which is located in the northwestern region of Ontario approximately 2 hours drive from Winnipeg Manitoba.
I've been more or less been working a coal forge making knives and the like seriously, for about 5 months now. I've spent the last 2 years, messing around with armor reading my eyeballs out of my head researching metallurgical information associated with knife making and blacksmithing and gathering tools. I would like to think I have more or less a fundamental understanding on the subject.
As a young boy, I was always mesmerized by historical examples of swords, knives and suits of armor, but alas up until my more recent years I've always thought of those as more or less pipe dreams. Now, here I stand, a man with the means to pursue those dreams, and I intend to pursue them to the end!
I've recently decided to build a propane forge but am having trouble locating suppliers for ceramic high temp insulation and castable refractories IN CANADA. I've found a few in the states but international shipping is astronomical. if there is anyone on this forum that can direct me towards Canadian supplier who more or less caters to the hobbyist so I can save some money on shipping fees, I would be forever grateful!

I look forward to interacting and learning with you all!
    Zach

Welcome to the forum Zach. I've bought from the Pottery Supply House in Oakville. Good bunch of people there. Shipping wasn't bad for a package to come all the way to Alberta.
