Ok I'm not sure if this belongs here, if not I'll move it to the appropriate section.
I started on I Christmas present idea and wanted to bounce the design off everyone. I'm looking for any input so feel free to have at it. It's based on Gerhard Wielands designs. I really like the flow he creates and wanted to try something like it. I'm thinking of W1 for blade. Copper, guard???,copper. Some dark wood (ebony maybe?) then copper again for the shield shaped pommel.

Like I said have a look and fire away.

Looks great dude I would love to see the real thing. I'm guessing you would build this as a hidden tang version.

I was definately going with hidden tang. I'm trying to figure if I want it to go all the way through and peen the end. The part there is having the shield on the back I don't want the peening visible. I would have to mount the pommel over it. That will take a little bit of figuring

Really like the design Ryan. I think that the idea of copper with ebony would be awesome. Gaboon Ebony sometimes has orange brown streaks in it, so if you could find a nice piece I think that would just look awesome with your design. But that's just my 2 cents.

I'll look into the gaboon ebony. Any suggestions on a good place to buy it?

Exotic woods in Burlington has an awesome selection of wood. They're pretty pricey though but you can buy small amounts. It's best to go and have a look if you can because they have tons of small pieces available that aren't on their website.
i'm going to post some wood in the classifieds so check it out and let me know if you're interested.
