I am pleased to say that my first damascus attempt actually worked! Been trying to figure out how to post pictures on this site but so far no luck, so, I put the knife in my avatar pic for you to see. Any feedback would be appreciated so please, feel free to critic it if you can see such a small pic. First of all...I have no power hammer or hydraulic press, just an arm, hammer and anvil. I used 1045 and 15N20, cut pieces to 3 inches in length and made 2 billets both consisting of 7 layers. My stock is 1.5" wide so it made a stack about 3/4" thick. I folded the pieces 3 times each for a total of 56 layers per billet and then combined the 2 billets for 112 layer knife. I think it went well so I am now going to try a 3 billet blade thats a bit bigger.
Congratulations! Finishing a hand-forged damascus knife is no small feat. I would certainly like to see a larger photo, what I can see looks pretty good.
I'm afraid the only pic I have for it here on this site is the avatar for me. That is the pic of it. I don't know how else to do it.
