Recall the tape patina fiasco? I decided to drop the etch and brush with a conditioning belt. I lost some logo, but I think I saved the knife. It's made from 3/32" AEB-L stock which I oil quenched to around RHC64 and drew back to RHC60 in tempering and 185°C. The handle is made from AEB-L that was scrap from the profiling of the blade, a 3/8" slice of gemstone composite from Jantz and a lovely piece of stabilized spalted maple burl from WoodStabilzer.com. The solo pin is 416 stainless. For you photography nuts, @Icho- I took the shots in the light box with 5400k fluoro lamps. In the photo editing I pulled the mid-tone to -44. This brings out the wood tones and reduces the blade glare. Dan
Good save! It it nice when what you consider a save would be considered a homerun by most of us... Lol! Love that burl wood!
I recently picked up 3 blocks from woodstabilizer.com for a couple knives I did before Christmas. I found that whatever they use to stabilize their wood has quite an odd odor to it. Stuff I have used before from wssi or k&g didn't seem to smell so bad. Don't get me wrong the stuff was great. Worked well and finished up great but the smell....
What the?....I missed this one. Awesome knife. Love everything about it especially the wood. That reminds me Dan. I will start playing with the camera again.
