Just thought I would share a little tip that works well for me, although most off you guys probably already know about it. For a makeshift center scribe, use a drill bit the same thickness as you blade stock. place your blade blank and drill bit on a flat surface, then roll the drill bit so the tip scratches against the soon to be edge of the blade. flip the blade over and repeat (to make sure you didn't mess up on the first side.) Yup, and can't emphasize 'Flat Surface' enough with this method! I use it myself and its been much more accurate since getting a granite surface plate
