Does anyone know of a supplier of vulcanized fibre aka "fish paper"? I have some queried some electrical suppliers but all they seem to stock is grey, for a grand total of colour choices topping out a...one. The US knife supply places have a dozen different colours in stock, but the cost of shipping outweighs the cost of the material. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Dan
I can't think of a non knifemaking supplier for is but maby Mike Mossington likely has it. Then you should probably get a bunch of steel to make the shipping more economical.
Dan I use the .015 black in all my knives. The only place that I have ever found it K&G in Arizona. Lots of other places have it but the thickness is .030 and I don't like the thick stuff. If you decide to order let me know and I am in for about 8 sheets of it.
This company carries the product in a few colours, plus an assortment of phenolic. http://www.professionalplastics.com/cgi-bin/main/co_disp/displ/curpage/2/carfnbr/19
Fish paper is the slang name for vulcanized fibre. Used mostly in electrical applications, but oddly enough the knifemaking community has latched on to it for spacers or liners.
We have it at work but only in a light teal color. I would guess it around 20 thou without actually micing it. I have seen it on our equipment in black and red as well but havent seen any unused stuff laying around.
