Has anyone noticed a big jump in liquid nitrogen costs?

Last time I filled my 25l Dewar it was about $130.00. This was about 8 months ago. I had it filled on Friday and it was $280.00. The guy said the price fluctuates daily. My buddy who farms said fertilizer has doubled in cost this year due to nitrogen costs.

This is going to make homemade ice cream really expensive.

That is quite a rip off seeing as how the air we breathe is 78% nitrogen !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You got to make a lot of knives to really justify that cost before the stuff just evaporates.

I guess you will just have to use ice and salt to make your ice cream.

The rip-off is the hazardous charge for nitrogen and dry Ice. I tried arguing that we breathe in nitrogen and out CO2 and the guy looked at me like I was an idiot.

I actually use the LN for convenience. Dry ice isn't too cheap and only lasts a couple of days. The LN stays around for about 3-4 months in my dewar. I'm able to heat treat a couple of knives whenever I want this way because I have it on hand. The LN also makes great ice cream for my buddy's kids but given the cost escalation, I guess they'll have to settle for store-bought.
