Cousins girlfriend was looking for a stamp to use on a leather label she puts on stuff she makes and next day I got to thinking what the heck I could try that and see what comes of it. her original design was HBC in a circle but that is likely a conflict with Hudson's Bay Company and decided to just hack up an old railroad spike and see what comes of it. Used a dremel tool with smallest carbide burr and diamond tipped burr, couple hours later a little bit of success. I did have to refine it some and get the surfaces polished a little better but it works. Found when the engraving is a couple millimeter deep it works the best. Sharp edges can stamp dry and leave a very deep refined impression, when slightly rounded then the leather needs to be wet. It is "HB" inside a "C" or horseshoe depends on how you look at it
Very cool project John. I didnt have the patience for that so I ended up having one made, but this could be a good option, especially if a guy needed a specific stamp for a run of knives, like groomsmans gifts or whatnot.
Well I learned quickly after messing up twice that there is a preferred direction of travel with the carbide bits. going with the rotation is bad news, one reason why the "H" is short on one side. Thinking of a stamp for myself now to put on sheaths and still be able to carve it
