Figured i would fire off a few pictures to show a knife I am currently working on. Its based off the Murray Carter Whitecrane pattern i believe its called. Blade is 1084, handle is vintage brown micarta that I managed to snag a large sheet of, and the bolsters are toxic green G10. I am a lot happier with the bolster fit and alignment on this one than the previous one. If you see this Cal, this is from that sheet of brown micarta we were discussing when you stopped by. The color is mostly consistant all the way through but randomly has inclusions of little darker or lighter flecks.
Surprising the green looks nice, I had two pieces here for months and never thought it would look nice. The bolster idea is a good one for such a bright color
Nice work! The green bolster throws my eye off a bit but I can see it being very useful. I hate when you set a knife down in some grass or otherwise then panic when you lose sight of it. You definitely will be able to always spot the green!
To be honest i wasn't sure how the green was going to work out really, but i like it in the end. I had planned to use a smaller bolster, but i wanted the seam to be even between the two front pins so thats why it ended up larger than normal. It certainly adds some flash to make it visible if its dropped beside a gut pile or in the bush. My original plan was to throw a .030 blaze orange spacer under all of it, but when i went through my stash i realized i had already used it all up a while back. Still have to do up a sheath for this one but havent decided how that will go yet. My gut tells me probably a leather pouch style, but a stack or even kydex is also a possibility. This green G10 and some orange, came in a lot that i bought off a guy for a steal so i decided to use it up as accents. The rest was slabs of black and coyote brown which was why i bought the lot.
Beautiful knife. I'm not a big fan of the green G10 but it really works well with the brown micarta. Good job!
