stumbled across this today, used my bench vise for years. So I figure a little cut here and there, weld 'er up, add some fastening bolts, add a blade wedge, hit it with the sander ........
should make for a great vise...........might even make the base swivel, will post a pic of the finished product when available

Looks like it will do nicely. I dug around a found a picture of mine. The picture is a bit busy, but you can get the idea. I didn't make this one --got it from someone. It clamps in my bench vise. I use it all the time for sanding blades and it works beautifully.

neat , I'm liking the bolt with the handle idea
for mine , I think I'll cut the neck, shorten it and weld it back on a 90 degree , thanks for the pic

I'd just lop off the base, flatten out the sides of that stem and clamp it in my bench vise. They're a great tool and when you need em nothing else will do.

I'll weld a nut on top of the two drilled holes you see, threading a bolt in to hold it in place
for adjustment and easy to loosen and rotate as required

couple more pics , still need to mount on the bench but it works perfect , really happy with it. I'll be using it mainly for finishing of handles , just put a knife in there.......I'm sure you've all seen lots of these , just thought I'd pass these on , green not my first choice but it was bare metal and needed to get some paint on 'er

Looks really good. The only other thing I'd want is a base that swivels.
