This is something I have been wondering about. How many makers have thought about setting a stone or something like this into their knives, sword or axes they have made. If anyone has would they be willing to post a tutorial on how to do such a craft?
Was looking into that and product recommended for Jade to Steel is E6000 available online and Michaels craft stores. Product is E6000 precision tip adhesive, Industrial Strength Adhesive. from http://eclecticproducts.com/e6000-precision-tip-adhesive.html
Cool been trying to find something that's good for quartz and anywhere I look online I keep seeing to braze it to the metal with silver solder.... kind of strange if you ask me because in my understanding that means you would have to build up a socket then use a non durable hook and socket set....
I have some pieces of paua (abalone) that would go nicely in a dark wood say ebony handle. Not sure how to shape or set the pieces in. Any advice? There's a shop in the mall here called ROXX that sells all kinds of semi-precious stones, crystals, wooden and metallic polished goodies. Dan
Hey Dan shaping could be done on a bench grinder with a very light hand. It may take some time to shape it but that's how I've done it with different stones.
I've been interested in doing stone setting for a while. I watched some YouTube videos and even picked up some cubic zirconia earrings to practice with but still haven't gotten around to trying it out.
I was thinking a tile saw might work for shaping the stones, that is if there is a large enough diamond or carbide area along the side of the blade. Or maybe just the blade mounted on a disc sander? or some other home made affair.
