I don't have anything to show yet but I figured I'd start my kith thread. I have been doing a little research on bushcraft knives and am just about to start putting something on paper and hopefully I will have something to show tomorrow.
Hey, that's okay, Ilija! That's just like me. Glad I'm not alone. And, hey, what are you doing up so late? Isn't it around 11:35 pm your time right now?
Sure is. I know if i go to sleep it will feel like a few seconds and I will be in the shower getting ready for work. Lol. I start work at 7 but I still stay up until 11-12. A few nights ago I lost track of time while working on a knife. When i looked at the time it was 1:30.
I've been doing some drawing last night and today. Here's where I'm at so far. . I will be using 3/16 (0.1875) O-1. Still undecided on things like handle material, cold blued or hand rubbed blade and I am considering a screwed together assemby instead of my standard epoxy and pins. Well, good chance I will be cutting and grinding steel before the night is over. Let me know what you guys think so far
Thanks Dan and very true about the pin. I just drew the pins without any measuring or thinking. Actually the button head cap screws. i normally don't measure and lay out the pins until the actual steel is profiled because I usually make little adjustments while profiling.
Here's a really bad picture of where I was at a few days ago. This is just rough ground with a 36grit belt. I have about an hour into it since this picture. I am hoping to do some ice fishing tomorrow so I don't know how much I will accomplish this weekend. I wasn't going to go with bolsters but seeing how some of you are getting pretty fancy I am rethinking my design. since I don't have any holes drilled yet I can still changethings up.
It's been a while since I gave any kind of an update. Sorry I'm so behind but I'm am still in. I know Dan has been done forever and hopefully more of you guys are still in also. Well here's a quick picture. It is heat treated. I just have a little more touching up to do but if all goes well the knife will be done this weekend and then on to the sheath.
