    Hi mg,

Welcome to the forum. What style of knives are you interested in making? There are two main approaches:
1.) Forging where you heat the steel and hammer out the basic shape, then do a bit of grinding to finish it into its final shape and
2.) Stock removal where you take a bar of steel and grind it to its final shape.
(One could argue there are combinations of the two as well. )

Stock removal is a good place to start. All you need is some steel and some basic tool like a hacksaw, vise, drill and files. This is how I started.

There's lots of good advice here and some tutorials too.

    All the best,

    Dan

Thank you. My first knife will be made from a file and will be made by stock removal. I have two files I got for 1.50 cad.
