Morning folks, My name is Jesse Bartram, been making knives for going on 7 years now. Started with stock removal from leaf springs and files and then some o1 that was a dream to work with compared to my shoddy annealed salvaged stuff. Wasnt to long into it before i got to forging, and that is my preferred method of blade making, for no other reason than i enjoy it and it lens me a bit of freedom with what material i am able to start out with. I joined the American bladesmith society after meeting ed Caffrey at a hammer in hosted at jim clows and have since passed the performance part of my journeyman smith testing. I love all the subtle nuances in the knife making. It seems no matter where you search there is always some new trick to learn. From beginners to masters, the willing passing on of knowledge in the knife community has always made me smile. Thanks for having me, and i look forward to learning from and sharing with you all.
Welcome to the group, Jesse. I couldn't agree more with what you've said about the willingness of the knife making community to share tips and transfer knowledge to others. That is the primary reason for this site and I'm glad to have you here.
Welcome Jesse and congrats on earning the Journeyman Smith. I am certain your input will be greatly appreciated. Dan
Great to have you join the forum, Jesse! I'm another one who's benefited from the generousity and mentorship of Jim Clow and from the knowledge of Ed Caffrey. I took in all of Jim's hammer-ins except for the last one (had to work that weekend). I believe that was the one where you earned your journeyman's status. I'm in Wetaskiwin, by the way, and among other things, I'm putting together the 5th annual Metal Art Show and Sale at the Reynolds-Alberta Museum. This event has turned into a great knifemaker's gathering. It certainly would be great to have you join us if you have the time. It's on September 17 and 18 this year. Jim T
Morning Jim, Ya there was nothing quite like the clow Hammer ins,sad to see them go. But to be clear and not mis represent myself, I've only passed the first portion of the two part test that is the journeyman stamp certification. And i don't see myself being able to get enough shop time to build an inventory worth trying to get a table at the metal at show, however i do plan on being there this year. It looks like it's quite the event.
Appreciate the welcome fellas, I've only got a smart phone for tech and im not very savvy so please bare with me. Glad to be here.
Lol grizz, i won't even pretend that i didn't have to look that one up. I wouldn't say I'm for the destruction of technogical advancements, just not all the way on board yet.
