Hello everyone, I've been away from knifemaking for about 15 years, but I'm resuming part-time. I may have a couple of questions for you guys further down the road.
Hello every one, I make mostly hunting knives, but also a couple of wilder pieces when the material dictates the function. I don't know if there is a minimum number of posts before one can post pictures, but I've just finished a letter opener in damasteel, with a walrus ivory and amboyna burl handle. I'll try and upload it to Photobucket, which might wirk better for posting it here.
Hey Pierre. Welcome. 15 years under your belt... Man, even the most recent noobs have more experience than i do... that's good for me I guess.
More like 3 years experience and about 5 dozen knives or so, followed by a 15-year hiatus. Here's my latest one, firt test posting pictures
sorry, i misread... i thought it said you've been knifemaking for 15 years... but you've been away from it for that long... either way, still got lots of experience on me Pierre. I dig that handle. What is it, an antler point or a horn?
Walrus ivory and amboina burl. It took me many years to find a design that would adapt to the materials on hand, since the tip of the tusk was rather small, and I used a damasteel leftover for the blade. The stumbling block was how to make the transition between the two of them...
oh man, that second shot is waaay better than the other two. There's some way cool details in there. That is a great looking knife dude.
