Hi Everyone, A little bit about myself, well here goes. Background, I live in Toronto and work at an arts Centre as the Techician but I'm also a glassblower, woodworker and sculptor. I got into knife making about 3 months ago. I started by replacing the handle on my favorite kitchen knife, which had broke, with some nice curly black walnut. Right now I'm working on 5 stock removel knifes, from some old files I had. Here's the first 5 that I'm working on. [/IMG] I have lots of questions and I'm hoping that becoming a member I can benefit from the other memebers knowledge and also contribute myself. My first question is; does anyone know of a good metal supplier for knife metal in the GTA, I just went to try Solways and it is gone, completely, building and all. Cheers Joel
Welcome to the forum. We have a very diverse group here with a widespread skill set. Make yourself at home and don't hesitate to ask any questions you have. This is a great group of guys here.
Welcome, Joel. I don't know of any metal suppliers local to the GTA, but you can order online from places like Canadian Knifemaker Supplies (Rob and Marilyn are very helpful) or, if you don't mind the hefty shipping fees, USA Knifemaker has lots of good stuff. By the way, those blades look really good. Can't wait to see them finished.
Hello again, So after about a year and a bit of no knife making, long story and a major career change, I'm making time to make things and have started to work on some of knives that I shelved back in February 2015. I'll be posting some of my wip's soon. It took a long time to catch up on over a years worth of posts. But wow there are a lot of new people making great knives and people that have been here a while and are still making great knives. It feels so good to be back working on knives, building a forge, setting up a little basement shop and having fun. Cheers Joel
Welcome back Joel. I know what you mean about trying to catch up. I was away for a few weeks ago while back and it took me a couple days to catch up.
Hey Joel, long time no see. We're having a bird & trout/paring knife KITH if you are interested in joining in the fun. Looking forward to seeing some of what you have been up to. Dan
