Welcome to CKM. Rob's right, some of us know enough to be dangerous and some know a whole lot.

Do you know what sort of knives you're interested in making (fixed blade or folders)? How about what method you want to get into (forged or stock removal)?

Oh yes, I have been thinking about making knives for a very long time, Since I was in high school. I Actually went looking for someone to take me on as an apprentice or paid lessons after graduating but I couldn't find anyone interested in taking me on. I'm interested in fixed blades, I love Grohmann Knife designs, particularly trout and bird and the Survival knife he makes. I also like the shape of the Kukri. As for method I'd like to Learn the forge/ Casting method, The idea of making my own steal and manipulating the carbon content is appealing to me. To be honest the more traditional I can be (with in reason) the better. I Have nothing against stock Removal and will probably explore all methods, from what I have read stock removal might actually be better for a newbie like me! :D

Welcome here. I can't remember names, but I know that there is at least one knifemaker in Whitehorse. I'll ask around and see what I can dig up.

Bandit Blades AKA George Roberts. He's the only one I have heard of. There might be a few others.
