Hello, my name is Randy. I've been making knives off and on for a few years now. I haven't done a whole lot so far, maybe 30 or so knives to date. I've learned quite a lot in that time, but still learning and hoping to further advance my skill in knifemaking. Maybe some day in the future I can have a go at this full time, but right now it's just something I enjoy doing in my free time. It's my quiet time away from the wife and kids, lol. My primary passion is for making traditional 18th and 19th century frontier inspired knives. Currently I am working on a Hudson Bay camp knife.

    Thanks for having me here!

    Hi Randy,

Welcome to the forum! I know what you mean about "quite time." Hahaha.
Have you been to the metal art show in Wetaskiwin?

Welcome Randy!! I get the quiet time thing too. I find after a long day of meetings and pulling my hair out, the sound of the grinder and CBC radio really helps me clear my head.

Until I started reading this forum, I never knew such things existed around here. I'll have to check it out sometime.

Ya Jim (@Jim T) puts on a show every September at the Reynolds-Alberta Museum and knifemakers come from far and wide to show their wares and talk knives. Of course there are axe makers, jewelry folks and assorted blacksmiths there too. Fun event and close to home for us.

From one Albertan to another, welcome to the forum, Randy!

And hey, thanks for the plug, Dan! This year the Metal Art Show and Sale is slated for the weekend of September 16 and 17. I'm pretty sure we have the largest gathering of custom knifemakers in the province all showing off their eye candy in Wetaskiwin. Mark in your calendars everyone!
