Hello all, I've been collecting knives for a while, and over the last year or so watching and reading anything I can get via the internet on knife making. Riding into work one morning and stopping my foot slid out on a chunk of metal which must have fallen off a truck. Managed to keep the bike from landing on me, and that piece of metal although not the right steel, became my first project to learn and make mistakes on. Hope to pick up some good tips, tricks, and advice.
Welcome to CKM, Vinnie. That sounds like a potentially painful "step" into knifemaking. Hopefully, the knowledgable folks here can help prevent any more serious falls. (Okay, officially out of puns )
Great pun Tim! Groan. Welcome Vinnie. Shout out if you need some help or are looking where to find stuff. Cheers! Dan
Welcome Vinnie. I'm also a noob to knife making. I'm just collecting tools and supplies to get rolling this winter. That would have been rather hair raising to almost dump the bike, especially if your Vulcan is one of the larger models. It's a different inspiration story, but whatever works is good by me. There are some great guys on the CKM forum and lots of great posts to read through. Enjoy the learning process. I know I am. Gary. P.S. I'm also a bike rider (2014 Triumph Thruxton) and from the GTA (eastern burbs).
Thanks All, Not fun sliding on it at all, but as stated it was a good piece to cut my teeth on. This forum has become my new resource, so looking forward to improving and honing some skills.
Now that I finally figured out how to post images. you can see the scrapes on the metal from the asphalt.
