Just wanted to say hello and thank everyone here for great tips and tricks. I've been poking around this forum and others to learn about knife making and it just amazing how much you can learn. I figured if I'm going to make my own knives for friends and family I might as well make my own knife making tools. So I thought I would show off what I've made in the past couple of months with pictures. I made the grinder and heat treat oven all by hand in my man cave, its a great feeling to make things with your own two hands and not to mention all the money you save :D

Now I can concentrate on knife making and I'll also be looking to all you knife makers for places to obtain supplies such as belts, handle material and kydex.

    regards

Welcome to the forums. If your home-made equipment is any indicator, I can't wait to see your knives. Really nice work!

what do you figure you have into the grinder and the oven , I know my grinder chasis's were $650 and change , my Paragon on sale was $960 ish plus some for freight to Seattle where I pick up my goodies

Thanks!!!! The grinder only cost me about $150 to make, I just bought all the raw steel from a local supplier and whipped it together and the wheels I made on my mini lathe. A friend of mine gave me the motor, the grinder works like a champ and also tracks spot on because I crowned the tracking and drive wheels. As for the heat treat oven it cost me about $200 to make, the frame is made from an old bed frame and believe it or not the heating element was savaged from an old dryer.
