    Hello,
I am embarking on the new exciting hobby of knife making. Ive done lots of internet research into this topic, however I wish to ask if there is a particular book that would be a good reference for a novice like myself. I have a lifetime of mechanical skills. I remember a bit of high school shop instruction in metals, however I would like to refresh my knowledge with respect to heat-treating and annealing. Im starting out with a couple of old files. I am also making myself a No Weld Grinder.

    I appreciate any assistance.

    Welcome to CKM, Murray.

There are a lot of good books out there and I'm sure everyone here has his favourite. For me, I think Wayne Goddard's $50 Knife Shop is a good first book. It has a lot of good background on the craft and makes you realize you don't need a shop full of equipment to make a really nice knife.
