Hello everyone! I have always had a love of history and blades. I’m sure this is normal here these days but I love forged in fire and would love to able to do it someday. I’m curious to know if there are any smiths in the Dartmouth area. I’ve seen a few in Halifax but maybe someone from the dark side hahaha I would just be fun to watch the process in person some day - Chris
Welcome to the forum, Chrispy. We have a few members from the Far East, though I don't know if there are any forgers near you. I'm sure they'll let you know if they exist. In the meantime, the rest of us can try to provide any answers you might need.
Thanks guys! Who knows if I’ll ever actually be able to make something but knowing how it all works is a good start!
Welcome aboard! I'm from the other side of the harbour! I do both forge and stock removal. They are a few guys around but they are not all on this site.
Wecome Chrispy!! The journey of a 1000 miles begins with signing up to this forum. I'm pretty sure that's how that saying goes. Anyway, you'll find a lot of useful information and really helpful people here. Fire away with the questions. I know i have a pretty good understanding of many things NOT to do : )
I was out in dartmouth for 10 years...just moved to ontario last summer....do you know what kind of knives you want to make..chef..camp..forged or ground..etc?...there are many ways to make a knife...which one is best for you depends on your skills, available tools and personnal preference...
Thanks for the replies I look forward to taking the time to look through the posts to see what I can learn about the process
