Hey everyone, just wanted to post to introduce myself. My name is Brandon and I have been making knives for about two years now, mostly as a hobby. (sounds like an addictions meeting hey) Anyway, I am looking forward to picking up some great info here and being able to actually discuss ideas and skills with other makers relatively close to me. I made my first two knives out of D2 about ten years ago in about grade 10 in shop class. They turned out pretty good but it was 8 years before i got back into it and started making them again. So far i have made about 10 knives and all have been from 1084. I plan to get into some other steels but i had a bit of a stockpile of 1084 and wanted to use that up until i get my new grinder going. I am currently in the process of building a 2x72 which will hopefully make my life a lot easier. I would post a few pics of my work so far but it says i cant post attatchments. Anyway, just wanted to say hello and that i cant believe i didnt find this forum sooner.

Welcome to the forums. Sharing knowledge and exchanging ideas is what we're all about. (And we like a good picture or five too).

About the pictures-- you can't add them directly to your post. This thread explains how it works.

Welcome Brandon. Lots of good resources here and throughout southern Saskatchewan. Looking forward to seeing some of your work.

Brandon, you came up at the the Guild meeting last week. There is a former Guild member in Moosomin somewhere that could be a valuable contact for you. I don't know his name but maybe forge or Mythtaken could shed some light.

Don't want you to think that we're leaving you OTS (Out There Somewhere).

No problem at all. I happened to be at the gun/everything else show in Brandon Manitoba a couple weekends ago and that's where I met Cal. I almost didn't make it there as we were supposed to be Christmas shopping, and I may have acted slightly like a three year old to get the other half to agree to spending some time at the show instead of the mall. I do know one older guy around here that used to make knives so i would think it could possibly be Fred Frondall that you may be speaking of. I was actually thinking the other day about contacting him to see if he would be interested in meeting up sometime. I don't think he is making anymore so who knows, it may also be a good place to pick up some tools or machines if he is interested in selling. Thanks for the heads up on this and if one of the other members knows whether i am correct about this fellow it would be much appreciated.
