here's a project I've been working on for a bit..... one for the groom and 3 for his groomsemen...... Desert Iron wood and some O1
Very nice set. Sheaths have a classy look to them. I was wondering how knives would go as gifts for groomsmen so last year for my wedding I made a set and it was a hit. I'm starting to see it more often.
Great knives and a really neat wedding keepsake. I see two of the handle profiles are slightly different. Is there a reason?
Thanks Foster and yes Good eye !!! originally he had a tough time deciding on a couple pattern so he decided to go with 2 of each that he liked , one set for him and the best man and the other for his groomsmen....
nice job rob , how are you putting that patina on your blades ? and does that scratch off easy ? would like to try to color my blades once in a while .
Very nice Rob, I love the look all around excellent work!!! Love the sheaths to and is that a mustard patina on the blade?
Thanks guys , appreciate all the replies.......I have no secrets Donny LOL !!! I'll be the first to share any info , the more the better...... The list of things I want to try in this knife world seems to be a never ending ongoing list ! Testing and experimenting is half the fun , creativity and not worrying about failing is the other half ! The buyer of this 4 pack left it with me other than the blade design and his choice of handle material. I thought a forced patina with a vinegar base would give a nice finish , then I added mustard , then some BBQ sauce , then Dijon for flavour , then I soaked it in just shy of boiling vinegar , loved the look , but then for some reason I dipped em in FC.......but to give you a 100% honest answer I don't have or wrote down the details and measurements of all of the above......in fact Metal99 and I were talking about the blade finish the other night and I told him as we'll " I was experimenting and never wrote down the info , just went with it" end result.....the groom to be was thrilled with the package Moral of the story......don't be afraid to try anything, worst case you resand or start over or just go with it, that's the great thing about knife making , there is no exact proper way , there are simply to many "ways to to do it". just giv'r and have fun doing it Thanks again fellas, hope this helps Rob
Verrry nice, love the finish as well, I tried hot vinager the other day.. I'll have to see what else I have in my fridge apparently haha
i just tried mustard on my o1 steel for about 45 mins , with zero response. i sanded down to 400 grit and cleaned with acetone also . got vineger on a paper towel covering my blade now . we will see what happens .
