Hi guys, Been trolling here for a couple months. Very impressed with the forum, and especially the members. This has to be the most friendly forum I have ever seen. Everyone is helpful and supportive. I am new to knifemaking. It's been on my to-do list for quite a while, and something always seems to come up. Basically, I've ground up a few files into blades and thats as far as I've gotten. Never did get a handle on any of them. This time, I'm starting some tooling to help with the knifemaking. I have already built a knife vise, and I'm currently building a 'Gough' style knife filing jig to get me started. I'm thinking of starting a 'Building Shop' thread in the 'tools and equipment' page. It might interest someone. Next on the list will be a 2x72 grinder, kydex press, and a micarta scale making device of some sort (still planning that one). I'm currently employed as a machine shop instructor, which allows me to build some interesting things... Anyway, my christmas list is full of 1084 and AEB-L. Hope the wife comes through. Then I'll really be getting started. I'm a big fan of hunting, skinning, and general camp knives. I think I'll be sticking to full tang knives for a while. We'll see how things go. Cheers, Geoff
Thanks Dancom. I think I've read every page you have on your blog. That's when I started thinking about building my own grinder. And its a pretty safe bet my first knives will look alot like some of your patterns...
Welcome to the forum. I don't know if I ever said so but some of my ideas are very Dancom influenced as well. I used his grinder plan when i built mine before i even realized he was a member of this forum, just something i googled. Nice to have you aboard.
