Hi, I would just like to say thanks for a wealth of information on this site it helped me along my journey of making my first knife. I used a template of a Becker bk-2 and made it out of O1 tool steel with green micarta scales. Since the start of this knife I have downloaded google sketch up and designed some knives of my own to make for the next batch out of 1084. Let me know what you guys think
Keoke, I think you have some talent for making knives! (my first knife was a dog's breakfast). Did you use black micarta pins on the green micarta scales? Very tactical. Smart with the drain hole on the kydex too. You've got it. Nice work and welcome to the forum! Dan
Yes I used micarta pins on the handle, Thanks for the kind words. I did put about 20 hours of learning as I build. There are a few things I did mess up on it like the plunge lines do not line up quite right sided to side but with the second blank I made a guide for my file that bolts to the blade. Here is a pic of some of the projects I have on the go, not bad for only starting three weeks ago in a small town house garage. The 4 blades to be cut out are of my own design and to be given out as wedding party favors for my sisters wedding, good thing the wedding is in September.
DANNG ! that is one impressive first attempt ! Hats off to you sir! on a off note I hope that no fight breaks out at the wedding ! lol Your design looks really comfortable to hold, nice palm curve.
That's your first knife?!? Holy, nice job! My first knife is a fond memory of what not to do. It still sits in drawer in a dresser in the basement. It's big, clunky, poorly balanced, but hey it was my first! Welcome to the forum, Keoke! Jim T
Wow, thanks guys. I just stuck to my game plan of making it right and if something wasn't right go back and fix it. I made a modified version of the gough file jig and not listening to his instruction I made a dip one file with from the plung line. I only noticed it when I started sanding it spine to edge on a sheet of glass. It took a lot of sanding to get that dip out.
You said it is number 1... Are you sure you didn't leave a zero or 2 off the end of that? Lol! Really great job!
