https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8LRmz9QFmLMbkxENG1aeF9hX28/view?usp=docslist_api This is something I worked on for a while and thought I would see what you guys thought. The blade is full tang and measures 13"x4"x1/4". This is made from O1 as well. The handle is stabilized Burch with cord wrapping. The brass I'd repurposed from an old BBQ tank knob. Fully heat treated to between yellow and orange hot and super quenched.
so the neighbors BBQ don't work anymore Something to keep an eye out for at the dump Is it birch bark or the wood?
the wood is stabilized. No the bbq works just fine it was from an old rusted out bbq tank I found on the side of the road... so I just grabbed my pipe wrench and gave it a twist and she popped off. So what do ya think?
I would advise against super quench for O1. It's extremely violent and although it does help allow full hardness (assuming the rest was correct) it's about the surest way to warped and broken blades out there.
Yes the rest is correct, for some reason it didn't warp at all. I've put it threw some stress tests and nothing yet has gone wrong, I'm counting my luck ATM because I was reading about how super quenching can do what you're speaking of grayzer86.
I used this heat treating schedule last week for my first attempt at 01 and it worked. http://www.speedymetals.com/information/Material9.html
