Well its been rainy all week so I haven't been able to fire up the backyard forge to treat knives number 3 and 4 so I moved on to trying my hand at making some sheaths. I've done a bit of simple leatherwork before - made some belts and holsters, even a dog leash I forgot how great a material leather is. Smells great and it cuts like butter. Good times. So here are some pics of sheath 1 and 2. #1 is wet formed 9oz veg tan with a water-based stain and a protective wax coating. #2 is the same veg tan with some simple border stamping and a hot wax treatment with a blend of parrafin and beeswax - gives the natural leather a nice antique look I think. For the belt loops I put a straight hang and a cross-draw option. Hand stitching all around. Anyway, thanks for looking and all constructive criticism is welcome! (sorry for the noob pics, I'm working on putting together a light box)
Nicely crafted and the level of fit & finish is very high. Your work shows passion and originality. Hey the pictures are great! Pissin' buckets here too. Cleaning the garage days. Dan
Nice work! I have been so tied down with stuff lately I have not had a minutes hobby time what-so-ever and seeing this stuff is lighting a fire under my butt to drop everything and get out to the shop... I better go hide before my lovely bride finds something else for me to do!
