I finally got around to making a sheath for this little guy after a few months of it sitting naked in the shop. I used 10 oz with medium brown dye around the edges. Tandy Waxed Braided Cord Beige 11210-04. I used a dinner fork for a spacing guide. All she needs is a soak and a buff. Dan
That looks really good Dan. Great looking knives deserve a great looking sheath. Nice coloring. Couple of questions. Did you put a gusset in? what did you use for the holes? A little hard to tell but I think I am picking up a bit of leather "fuzz" o the edges. If so, have you ever tried to burnish the edges?
Thanks Eric. I am not sure about a gusset. I put a 3/8" wide welt that runs along the edge where the front and backs come together and get stitched. I used a 1/16" drill bit and drilled the holes on the drill press. There probably is a little fuzz. I used some gum tragacanth and piece of wooden dowel. The focus was on the edge where the three pieces meet. I was going to hit it with the lighter and singe off any fuzzies. Dan
Maybe this is a better shot. I tried for a mottled effect and a sunburst thing too. For the mottling, I used a cotton ball and Medium Brown dye on the tanned leather and just sort of rolled and daubed it randomly. Dan
It's some flame yellow birch (stabilized with Stick Fast) 0.020" aluminum spacer and African blackwood. These were joined into single scales, then put on the knife. I did this as a "Build Along" early this year: http://www.canadianknifemaker.ca/index.php?threads/composite-scale-idea.1136/ Dan
