    Hi there,

I stumbled across a link on Canadian Gunnutz that brought me here, what an amazing site :). My Great Grandfather was a Blacksmith; and my Grandfather a Millwright, was a connoisseur of fine blades. Recently, after endlessly searching from store to store for quality knife; a knife that would stand the test of time, a knife that my Great Grandfather would be proud to own, I realized I could not find such a knife in a store. I would have to create it. Even though the skills of the trade were not passed on to me the desire to forge clearly was.

The question I am asking myself now is, so where do I go from here? I will begin to scour through the forums and glean as much knowledge as I can, any and all advice will be most appreciated.

    Thanks for reading,

    Joel B

Welcome to CKM, Joel. It sure sounds like the bug is in your genes.

The collective knife making knowledge of the folks here is both broad and deep. Whatever your questions, I'm sure someone here will have an answer. You can start in our Beginner's Knifemaking area for the basics. And where you find gaps in the information, let us know so we can help improve that section.

Your location says P.A. Does that mean P.A. SK? If so you should look at joining the Saskatchewan Knifemakers Guild and getting to know some of the guys involved there. I'm not certain but I believe we have some members from up in that Northern SK country.

I've attached a copy of the Sask Knifemaker's membership form. There are meetings each month in Regina (Sept through May) but there are members throughout the province. A number of us are members. The newsletter alone is worth the membership.

Just tell them we sent you --they'll charge you double :D
