I was on Busy Bee Tools website, looking at bandsaws, and came across this Rikon DVR motor/controller. https://www.busybeetools.com/products/rikon-smart-dvr-motor-for-band-saws.html Do you think this could work for a 2x72 belt grinder? Been trying to get my shop built, but it won't be ready until next spring. once that is finished, it will be time to build my Sayber OSG.
It looks like it might work but considering the cost, you'd be spending almost as much as you would for a kbac setup that's tried and tested.
A couple of things that may be worth considering. The speed of the Striatech drive seems to be limited to a range between 100 to 2160 RPM, which is IMO too slow for a belt grinder unless you want to get invest in a larger drive wheel. In the product literature I have seen so far, there is no reference to the motor shaft diameter. NEMA motors are 5/8" or 7/8" typically and off-the-shelf grinder drive wheels are readily available. Also, no details are provided on the C-face mounting holes, which are needed for the Sayber OSG. Probably an IEC standard. And like Magnus mentioned, a KBAC-27D and fairly decent Chinese motor will come in around $850 CAD landed.
